Test the Backup Before You Need It

Backups are only real if restore works. Here is the quick quarterly test every business should run.

A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan. The test does not need to be dramatic: pick one important file, restore it to a temporary folder, open it, and confirm it is current.

The best backup setup has three copies, two different storage types, and one copy offsite or offline. That last part matters because ransomware can destroy backups it can reach.

Write down where the backups live, who has access, and what gets restored first if the building, laptop, or cloud account fails.

If the restore test feels intimidating, schedule it calmly now. Emergency mode is the worst time to learn the process.
